This recipe is a great, lighter alternative to the traditional burger. Here we have a burger patty made from a large field mushroom. Mushrooms are a great food to incorporate into your diet as they house many vitamins and minerals making them very nutrient dense while still being low in energy (aka a low calorie source food).

To marinate the mushrooms, mix the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, oregano and tamari in a bowl. Place the mushrooms in the bowl and leave to marinade for 15 minutes.
Place a grill pan or regular pan if you don’t have one on a medium heat. Fry the mushrooms on each side for approx. 10 minutes or until the mushroom soften and have caramelised and browned on each side.
To build the buns place one mushroom on each bun, along with sautéed onions, cheese, beetroot, lettuce and top with homemade relish.
