Our pick of 2018’s top health trends

According to Wholefoods Market, one of the world’s leading health food retailers there are some stand out trends predicted for 2018.

We found some surprising, and others not so surprising. We have picked our favourites. Check out the original article here to see the whole list and tell us what you’re most excited about!

Super Powders

From turmeric, maca, cacao to powdered protein ‘super powders’ are everywhere and they are predicted to be bigger and better in 2018.

Personally we think powders are great and have a big roll to play at increasing nutrients within products. Powders are serious power players. We have a Golden Quench which uses turmeric powder, pepper and various other powders and spices to enhance the nutritional profile. What’s next for us… perhaps something with hemp powder!

Functional Mushrooms

Mushroom powders have been around for awhile now. You will find them in bottled drinks, coffees, smoothies and teas. They are rich in flavour and nutrients. Wholefoods has also predicted they will find their way into our body care too from soaps to shampoos and conditioners.

What do you think about the mushroom powders? Yay or nay?

This one is less about the food and more about the company. More is more when it comes to product labeling. You guys want to know the real story behind you food, and how that item made its way from the source to the store. Well we couldn’t agree more, it’s so important to us for you to know what we are about and why we do what we do.

This year we are going to be making more of an effort to share the behind the scenes, the mission and dream of Pureharvest.

Puffed & Popped Snacks

Crunchy snacks are perennial favorites, but new technology is revolutionizing all things puffed, popped, dried and crisped. New extrusion methods (ways of processing and combining ingredients), have paved the way for popped cassava chips, puffed pasta bow ties, seaweed fava chips and puffed rice clusters. Good-old-fashioned chips also get an upgrade as part of the trend, with better-for-you bites like jicama, parsnip or Brussels sprout crisps.

Which puffed snacks are your favourite? What are your thoughts on flavoured rice cakes?
