Cinnamon Poached Pears

Soft, sweet and lightly spiced, these pears are just one of those classic, feel good recipes. They’re delicious served hot with granola or porridge, perfect cold on muesli or even as the crowning glory on a showstopping chocolate tart.

6 pears
peeled, halved and cored
6 cups water
1/2 cup Pureharvest Rice Malt Syrup peel of 1 lemon
peeled into long strips
2 cinnamon quills

Put all ingredients, except for the pears, into a large saucepan and bring to the boil.

Once boiled, reduce heat to a fast simmer and carefully placed pears in water, cut-side down. Leave to poach, turning once halfway through, until most of the liquid has evaporated and begins to foam, around 45 mins.

Pour pears and syrup into a bowl and allow to cool slightly before serving, or storing in the fridge for up to a week.
