The secret to a creamy smoothie

Smoothies can be such a versatile and delicious addition to our diets, especially in the summer, when the weather is warm and we often don’t feel like eating a lot of rich or heavy food. We have made many smoothies in our time and it takes a special kind of talent and skill to make the perfect creamy smoothies, at least we think so!

Here are some of our top tips to help you make the creamiest, most delicious smoothie you’ve ever had.

Use frozen fruit and veg

A fantastic trick for smoothies is to have a whole bunch of frozen fruit and vegetables in the freezer ready to go. We all know that frozen banana is fantastic in smoothies to make them extra creamy. However, have you ever tried cooked frozen pumpkin, zucchini or cauliflower? They also make super creamy smoothies and are a fantastic way of getting more veg into your diet.

Of course, frozen berries, mango, pineapple are also all great additions to any smoothies!

Use a creamy plant based milk instead of water

Using a non dairy milk such as Coco Quench at a lot of flavour and creaminess to any smoothie. You’ll never be able to go back to making your smoothies with just water ever again. I personally love Coco Quench because it provides the most delicious coco-nutty flavour.

Not a fan of coconut? Why not go for a more neutral milk such as Almond or Soy. Still provides the extra creaminess but isn’t as strong on the coconut flavour.

Use a small amount of ice

We all want nice cold and refreshing smoothies so a little bit of ice is great. However, if you use too much it can turn your smoothie into more of a slushy, sloppy concoction rather than a smooth and creamy delight. The more frozen fruit and veg and less ice the better!

Include healthy fats

Adding healthy fats such as avocado or chia seeds is great as it increase the nutritional benefits and will leave you feeling fuller for longer.

Get yourself a good quality, high powered blender

To ensure that you have a lovey creamy consistency you have to ensure your blender is nice and strong. If you love smoothies and make them regularly we really suggest investing in a good quality blender. It will last longer and create the most delicious and creamy smoothies you’ve ever had!
