Benefits of Coconut

Today we wanted to talk all things coconut and why the incredible food has grown so much in popularity over the years.

Coconut is both delicious and nutritious

Heart health. The fat content of coconut milk is made up of medium chain triglycerides (MTCs). MTCs go straight to the liver to be used as energy or turned into ketones.  MTCs are known to help boost levels of ‘good’ cholesterol and convert ‘bad’ cholesterol to ‘good’ cholesterol (HDL). Higher levels of HDL help with heart health.

Protects liver and fights against bacteria. MTCs are processed in the liver and helps to protect the liver from damage. The MTCs also fight against bacteria, acting as a natural antibiotic, by interfering with the lipid coating on bacteria and killing them.

Immune boosting. The lauric acid in coconut is known to help kill bacteria, reduce candida and create a hostile environment for viruses, helping to boost immunity and overall general wellbeing.

Healthy cooking. Coconut oil has a very high smoke point, meaning it can be heated to high temperatures without ‘burning’ and getting converted into free radicals which are not good for our health.

Oral hygiene. Coconut oil is great for oil pulling. Using coconut oil to oil pull in the morning (swish a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth for 10 minutes every morning, then spit it out) will help keep teeth white and also kill unwanted bacteria.
